Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. (SAM) acted as legal counsel to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) in relation to its joint venture with Hindustan Waste Treatment Private Limited (HWT) for setting up compressed biogas (CBG) plants and biofuel projects in India.
The transaction involves the formation of a joint venture entity with equal equity participation between IGL and HWT in a 50:50 ratio. The collaboration is aimed at developing sustainable energy solutions, aligned with India’s broader push towards increasing the share of green fuels and reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels.
The transaction underscores the growing momentum in India’s bioenergy sector, particularly in the development of compressed biogas infrastructure, and highlights the role of strategic collaborations between public sector enterprises and private players in advancing clean energy initiatives.
