The RBI has released the report of an internal working group tasked to review the extant ownership guidelines and corporate structure for Indian private sector banks. The group reviewed the eligibility criteria for individuals/ entities to apply for banking license; preferred corporate structure for banks and harmonisation of norms in this regard; and the norms for long-term shareholding in banks by the promoters and other shareholders, among others. Comments from the public/stakeholders have been invited by 15 January 2021.
